Pay Range: $50.68 - $85.14 per hour

Summary:
Join Rush University Medical Center as a Clinical Systems Architect and help shape the technology that powers patient care across a leading academic health system. In this role, you will design and architect integrated solutions that support critical clinical and pharmacy systems, ensuring seamless connectivity between third-party applications and the enterprise Electronic Medical Record, including Epic. Your work will directly support clinicians, pharmacists, and operational teams by delivering reliable, secure, and scalable systems that enhance patient care and streamline clinical workflows.
As a technical leader, you will guide the architecture, integration, and lifecycle management of enterprise clinical and pharmacy applications. You’ll partner with clinical stakeholders, pharmacy teams, IT colleagues, and vendors to implement and optimize complex systems, lead integrations using technologies such as HL7 and interface engines, and ensure solutions align with organizational strategy, security standards, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
Solution Design & Architecture
Design and maintain end-to-end application solutions integrating third-party systems with Epic EMR and other related systems
Define system architecture, data flow, and integration standards to support clinical and operational workflows
Evaluate application solutions for scalability, reliability, security, and long-term sustainability
Application Integration & Support
Lead integration efforts utilizing HL7, Epic Bridges, and interface engines
Oversee implementation, upgrade, and optimization initiatives for enterprise applications
Serve as escalation point for complex or systemic issues and assist with resolution
Ensure systems meet organizational security, compliance, and availability requirements
Technical Leadership & Project Oversight
Serve as application or technical lead for cross-functional projects
Coordinate with vendors, security teams, and internal stakeholders to deliver solutions on time and within scope
Provide direction and guidance to analysts and technical team members
Participate in governance, project review, and change management processes
Operational Excellence
Navigate ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) for project tracking
Support system maintenance, patching, and vendor-managed upgrades
Develop and maintain technical documentation, workflows, and process standards
Perform data analysis and reporting using scripting, SQL, and productivity tools as needed
Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain transparent communication with business and clinical stakeholders
Translate business requirements into technical architecture and solution designs
Promote collaboration and continuous improvement across digital and Information Services and operational teams
Required Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
5+ years of experience in healthcare clinical information systems, application integration, or solution architecture
Experience with system to system connections, HL7 interfaces, and interface engines (e.g., Cloverleaf/Ensemble)
Demonstrated experience leading application implementations and integrations
Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
7 + years of experience in healthcare clinical information systems, application integration, or solution architecture
Epic Certification in Major Epic Application (Willow, Orders, ClinDoc, Ambulatory)
Any of Epic Bridges, Cogito, Clarity, Caboodle certified or proficient
Experience with enterprise clinical and ancillary systems, including but not limited to:
Pyxis (BD), Omnicell
Integrated Infusion Pumps (Alaris, CADD solis)
CAPS, CPR+, HoverCam, CareTend (WellSky), AnywhereRN, Protenus
Robotics, printers, scanners and other clinical peripherals
Experience with ServiceNow or similar IT service management platforms
Scripting or automation experience (VBS, command line)
SQL and data analysis experience
Prior experience in healthcare security, regulatory compliance, or system migrations
Limited experience in health system related patient care role (pharmacy technician, imaging technician, medical assistant or any others not otherwise stated)
