We are seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Loan Underwriter to support our lending team. This role focuses on underwriting income-producing properties and investor-backed deals, requiring strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of real estate fundamentals.
The ideal candidate is comfortable evaluating complex transactions, assessing risk, and working with brokers, borrowers, and internal stakeholders to move deals efficiently from application to approval.
Responsibilities:
Underwrite CRE loan files including DSCR, bridge, and investment property loans
Analyze borrower financials, rent rolls, operating statements, and property performance
Evaluate key metrics such as DSCR, LTV, LTC, cap rates, and debt yield
Review appraisals, market data, and property-level risk factors
Structure loan terms and identify appropriate conditions to mitigate risk
Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and lending guidelines
Communicate clearly with loan originators, processors, and management
Provide concise credit memos and underwriting summaries
Requirements:
3+ years of CRE underwriting experience (bridge, rental, multifamily, mixed-use, etc.)
Strong understanding of income-producing real estate and investment analysis
Experience calculating and interpreting DSCR, LTV, cap rates, and cash flow metrics
Ability to review leases, rent rolls, and operating statements (T-12s)
Familiarity with U.S. lending standards and investor guidelines
Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with financial models
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deals simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with DSCR or non-QM lending
Background in private lending, debt funds, or mortgage banking
Familiarity with underwriting tools and LOS platforms
Experience working with brokers and high deal volume environments
