Description
The Kentucky Department for Public Health, Division of Maternal and Child Health, is seeking a detail-oriented
and collaborative professional to serve as a coordinator for the WIC Breastfeeding Program. In this role, you
will plan, develop, and help administer Kentucky’s Women’s, Infants’, and Children (WIC) Breastfeeding Peer
Counselor Program statewide, supporting consistent implementation and day-to-day coordination across local
agencies. You will work closely with program staff and partners to maintain program standards, assist with
training and technical support for peer counselors, and help ensure services are accessible and responsive to
families' needs. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful public health work by
supporting breastfeeding initiatives that improve maternal and infant health outcomes throughout Kentucky.
This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as
a result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that
funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for
the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-
merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit)
employee in a permanent position.

Key Job Responsibilities:
Reviews Federal Regulations and Legislation and develops procedures for local agencies to implement
policies and procedures to increase incidence and duration of breastfeeding in the WIC Breastfeeding Peer
Counselor Program.
Evaluates the training needs of the local health department WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor
Supervisors, Designated Breastfeeding Experts and WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.
Plans and provides
training based on those identified needs.
Conducts onsite reviews and evaluations for quality assurance and provides necessary technical assistance
for the Per Counselor Program.
Ensures program compliance with all federal and state regulations, policies, and procedures.
Develops, revises and reviews breastfeeding education materials for the KY WIC Breastfeeding Peer
Counselor Program.
Analyzes and compiles statistical information, evaluating program effectiveness for both state and
federal reports.

Experience with the WIC or Breastfeeding Peer program preferred but not required
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Four years of professional experience in a health care facility, a community-based health care program, an institutional health care program, any health program administration, pharmacy technician, social work, public health, population health, emergency management services, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or related field.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
A master's degree in public health, or a health-related field (such as human services, psychology, nursing, health administration, substance abuse, special education, rehabilitation, social work, sociology, or related field) will substitute for two years of the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Additional professional experience in a health care facility, a community-based health care program, an institutional health care program, any health program administration, pharmacy technician, social work, public health, population health, emergency management services, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
