Open Systems Solutions Architect (Defense / MOSA)

Job Summary  Pacific Impact Zone (PIZ) is seeking an Open Systems Solutions Architect to design and implement modular, distributed system architecture across our national defense portfolio.    This is not a policy or compliance-only role. This position is responsible for translating open architecture concepts (MOSA and related frameworks) into systems that function in real-world operational environments.    The ideal candidate brings experience in defense systems, systems integration, or architecture, and can bridge technical design with program execution. You will work directly with mission partners, engineers, and program teams to drive implementation across priority mission areas including distributed manufacturing and contested logistics.    Key Responsibilities  Program Execution & Mission Partner Engagement  Lead architecture execution across active defense programs from planning through delivery   Engage directly with mission partners, program offices, and industry stakeholders   Translate mission needs into actionable system and integration approaches   Drive progress in ambiguous environments and ensure delivery outcomes—not just compliance     Architecture Design & Systems Integration  Define modular system architectures, interface approaches, and integration strategies   Evaluate vendor solutions and technical claims with credibility and sound judgment   Translate open architecture principles (MOSA and related frameworks) into practical implementation plans   Identify and close gaps between policy intent and real-world system execution     Capability Building & Knowledge Transfer  Capture and document architecture approaches, frameworks, and lessons learned   Contribute to internal platform development, including distributed manufacturing initiatives   Support development of repeatable models for open architecture implementation across programs   Education: BS in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)  Experience and Qualifications  Required:  Experience working on DoD or defense-adjacent systems or programs   Background in systems architecture, systems engineering, or systems integration   Demonstrated ability to own and deliver complex workstreams in ambiguous environments   Experience working across technical teams, program leadership, and external stakeholders   Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts across audiences  Preferred (Not Required):  Experience with open architecture or modular systems (MOSA, OSA, FACE, SOSA, etc.)   Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes or program office environments   Experience supporting logistics, sustainment, or distributed systems   Exposure to supply chain integration or manufacturing systems    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Personal Attributes  Ownership mindset with accountability for real outcomes   Comfortable operating in fast-moving, undefined environments   Pragmatic and execution-focused—understands the difference between compliance and implementation   Mission-driven, with a strong interest in supporting the Warfighter   Willing to document and share knowledge to build organizational capability    Work Environment:   Full time, exempt position. This is a remote/hybrid position. Work may be performed from any location in the United States; however, team members are expected to maintain availability during core business hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Hawaii Standard Time (HST) to support collaboration.
