We’re looking for an experienced post-layout proofreader to perform a full QA review of a final book interior PDF.
This is not manuscript editing and not a Word-based proofreading task. The book is already laid out, and the goal is to catch errors and inconsistencies in the actual PDF so our designer can implement corrections cleanly and efficiently.
If you are comfortable reviewing designed book interiors and flagging issues by page number, this role is for you.
Scope of Work
You will proofread a fully laid-out book interior PDF and check for:
Spelling mistakes and typos
Missing punctuation (periods, quotation marks, etc.)
Inconsistent capitalization or terminology
Title and phrase inconsistencies across sections
Header, section, and TOC consistency
Image placement issues (awkward breaks, misalignment)
Spacing, alignment, widows/orphans
Repeated words or formatting drift introduced during layout
This is a QA and proofreading pass, not a rewrite.
Deliverables
One of the following (preferred):
A consolidated list of corrections (spreadsheet or document) including:
Page number
Location on page
Issue identified
Suggested correction
OR
A commented PDF with clear, actionable notes for the designer
You will not be making edits directly to the PDF or InDesign files.
Important Notes (Please Read Carefully)
We are not working from a Word manuscript at this stage.
This role is for PDF proofreading / post-layout QA only.
If you require Word files or Track Changes to work, this role will not be a fit.
Familiarity with book publishing and print-ready interiors is a strong plus.
Ideal Experience
Experience proofreading laid-out books or magazines
Comfortable reviewing PDFs in Adobe Acrobat
Strong attention to detail and consistency
Familiar with publishing standards and interior layout conventions
Able to give clear, concise, designer-friendly feedback
How to Apply
Please include:
A brief note confirming you have experience proofreading post-layout PDFs
An example (or description) of a similar QA/proofreading project
Your preferred method of delivering corrections (commented PDF or correction list)
